Ajith with his 50th film!

Rumour mill is abuzz about Ultimate Star Ajithkumar’s 50th film. While all and sundry is doing guess works on who the lucky producer and director will be, Ajith seems to focus solely on ‘Asal’. Directed by Saran, ‘Asal’ is shaping up well is now back from Malaysian schedule.

However, the latest we hear is that the actor is holding discussing about negotiations with a choice of producers and directors. However, the usual guesses like K S Ravikumar and Vishnuvardhan are the front-runners. When we consider K S Ravikumar, the pair has done super hit projects like ‘Villain’ and ‘Varalaru’ and share a great bond. But then as Ulaganayagan Kamal is ready to recreate the ‘Dhasavatharam’ magic again, K S Ravikumar is in a tight-spot now!

By the time K S Ravikumar is deciding on the best suitable project for him, the others chosen by Ajith are his favourite ‘Billa’ director Vishnuvardhan, ‘Ayan’ director K V Anand and his dearest Venkat Prabhu.

When we mull-over the production, people are ready to spare an arm and a leg for this golden ticket! Producer Oscar Ravichandran is in the race with Dhayanidhi Alagiri’s Cloud Nine. This is now a toss-up so keep it up till we get back with the domino-effect soon!

Silambarasan in Asal?

It’s not official still, but this tittle-tattle filled every nook and corner of the industry recently. It’s a well-known verity that Silambarasan is a die-hard devotee of Thala Ajith. The actor has never missed to sing the honour of Ajith even in one of his films. Silambarasan wanted to act at least in a single scene of Ajith’s film and he happed to get the right chance now after he told his wish to his hero.

Recently it was believed that Silambarasan will be doing a guest role in Ajith’s upcoming project- ‘Asal’. Though the news was rubbished by the production house, it appears like the news is partially true. Yup! Our little superstar will be doing his trade-mark stylized kuthu dance for a song in ‘Asal’. As if this is not enough, Silambarasan will be lending his peerless voice for this very same song!

Sources say that after wrapping-up the Malaysian schedule, a grandiose set will be erected for Silambarasan’s singly.

Hurray… So, can we expect a lot such solo dances of Silambarasan’s in future?

There are some more interesting facts being revealed in ASAL. The introduction song is being planned to do in a grand manner and Bhardwaj is working extra hard to ensure that his tune matches the expectations. The most interesting part is that Silambarasan will be Singing the song for Ajith.

Now, that will be interesting! One hero singing for another, the rarest of rare cases.

But, one is sure that Silambarasan, a self confessed admirer and close friend of Ajith will only be glad to do it. Silmabarasan has already given quite a few hits in his own voice, including a few songs sung for others too. The one in Asal, if it happens, will be a special one for all involved.

Ajith in 'Asal' with Sameera Reddy

wire photo

Ajith has started on his next project. After Aegan, Ajith has plunged into his next film with the verve and zest that is his deeply ingrained work ethic. The latest film called Asal, meaning original, will star Sameera Reddy. This hot, shapely star from Bollywood wowed Tamil audiences with her very down-to-earth and girl-next-door performance in Vaaranam Aaiyram. It was her sweet and heart-rending smile that did it for most of her male fans.

Produced under the Sivaji Productions banner, Asal will be directed by Saran. The project was initially planned with Gautham Menon. After that several names including Dharani and Vishuvardhan did the rounds, but now Saran is to handle the project. The film's music is by Harris Jayaraj. Saran will take up the project just as soon as he wraps up Modhi Vilayadu starring Vinay and Kajal Aggarwal. Colonial Cousins Hariharan and Leslie Lewis debut as music directors in Modhi Vilayaadu.

About Asal

Asal (Tamil: ) is a Tamil language film set to be released in 2009. It stars Ajith Kumar and Sameera Reddy in the lead roles. The film is currently in its production stage. The film will be produced by Prabhu and Ramkumar Ganesan. The film was briefly postponed after Gautham Menon walked out of the problem citing differences with the producers.

Development

Following the commence of production for Ajith Kumar’s Aegan in late December 2007, reports indicated that Ajith Kumar will act in a film produced by Sivaji Productions directed by Gautham Menon. Three months later, it was confirmed that the project would go ahead as planned as soon as both, the director and the actor finished their respective projects.

The film, which is due to start its first schedule during June 2008, has been built up as the final instalment in Gautham Menon’s police trilogy, following his two earlier ventures, Kaaka Kaaka; which Ajith Kumar was originally meant to be a part of and Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu. However other indications suggest that the film is the remake of the classic, Pudhiya Paravai starring Sivaji Ganesan, which Ganesan’s son, Prabhu, who is the producer for the project denied. The film earlier rumoured to be titled, Kanavugal Karpanaigal or Vaanam Kadandha Siragugal, was finalized with the title of Surangani, which was later abbreviated to Sura.[2]

The story was subsequently changed and Saran was signed up to the film.

Casting

Following the announcement that Sivaji Productions, Ajith Kumar and Gautham Menon would come together, other technicians were added to the film. Menon’s usual apprentices, Harris Jayaraj was signed on as the music composer for the film, while lyricist Thamarai, was selected to write the songs. Later, Dharani reportedly replaced Gautham as director due to disagreements between him and Ajith over the script.[4] After Sivaji Productions considered directors including A. R. Murugadoss, Vishnuvardhan and A. L. Vijay for the film, they turned to Saran.

Prabhu Ganesan, also co-producer for the film under Sivaji Productions, cast himself to play an important role in the film. Whilst, Gautham Menon selected Sameera Reddy, who had portrayed the lead female role in his previous film, Vaaranam Aayiram to star opposite Ajith Kumar in the film. Sameera appears along Ajith Kumar for the first time, despite previously being entitled to appear opposite him in Citizen, which eventually went ahead without her. The other members of the cast and technical crew are being finalized.
